Grain Systems Sales Manager – Structures Department
DIVISION: Grain Systems
REPORTS TO: Grain Systems Specialist STATUS: Exempt
Salary Range: $45,000 - $60,000 annually
PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Grain Systems Sales Manager is responsible for developing and managing sales of grain storage, grain handling, and related structures and equipment for Gold Star FS. This position develops customer relationships, identifies project opportunities, evaluates customer needs, prepares estimates and proposals, coordinates projects from sale through completion, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and profitably. The position works closely with customers, the Structures installation and millwright teams, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Generate new business through prospecting, customer visits, referrals, and industry events.
- Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate grain storage and handling solutions.
- Sell grain bins, grain legs, conveyors, unload systems, fans, dryers, aeration equipment, and related equipment.
- Conduct customer visits, measurements, and job-site evaluations.
- Assist with system design, equipment selection, and project development.
- Prepare estimates, quotations, proposals, and project specifications.
- Calculate project costs and establish pricing to maintain appropriate margins. Review drawings, layouts, measurements, specifications, and equipment information.
- Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams regarding pricing, availability, delivery, and project requirements.
- Present proposals and negotiate pricing, scope, and project terms within company guidelines.
- Communicate project scope and customer expectations to the Structures Manager and installation team.
- Coordinate project schedules and monitor projects from sale through completion. Communicate project status, changes, and potential issues to customers and management.
- Prepare and manage change orders and additional work. Assist with customer concerns, warranty issues, and service needs.
- Identify opportunities for additional equipment, upgrades, repairs, and future projects.
- Follow up after project completion to ensure customer satisfaction and develop future business.
- Monitor sales activity, gross margins, backlog, and project profitability.
- Participate in customer meetings, trade shows, field days, open houses, and other industry events. Promote Gold Star FS products, services, and capabilities. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS AND REQUIRMENTS
- Maintain accurate sales, estimate, project, and customer records.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and assigned property in a safe and serviceable condition. Participate in required company meetings, safety training, product training, and professional development.
- Maintain current knowledge of grain storage technology, grain handling equipment, construction practices, and industry trends.
- Establish effective working relationships with customers, employees, vendors, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers. Maintain confidentiality of company and customer information.
- Follow all Gold Star FS policies, procedures, OSHA requirements, and EHS regulations.
- Properly use required PPE and follow customer-specific job-site safety requirements.
- Travel as necessary for customer visits, job sites, meetings, training, and industry events. Work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and seasonal hours as business needs require.
- Work safely in agricultural outdoor environments, including active job sites.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, dependability, professionalism, and strong customer-service skills.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively with the Structures and Operations teams.
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered. Previous experience in grain systems, grain handling, agricultural equipment, construction, sales, or a related field preferred.
- Previous sales experience with demonstrated success preferred.
- Knowledge of grain storage and grain handling systems preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, equipment specifications, layouts, and measurements. Strong mathematical, estimating, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and customer-service skills.
- Strong organizational and project-management abilities with the ability to manage multiple projects, customers, and deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and applicable company systems.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Gold Star FS service area.
- Regular travel to customer locations and construction sites is required.
- Ability to walk and inspect work sites. Ability to climb ladders and access grain bins, legs, towers, catwalks, and other elevated areas when required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around grain dust, noise, moving equipment, construction activities, and other potential hazards.
- Ability to wear required PPE while visiting or working on job sites.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and move around job sites as needed. Extended hours, evenings, weekends, and seasonal work may be required.
