Precision Ag Specialist (Temporary) - FS PARTNERS - Ayr, Ontario

PURPOSE & SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

Under the direction of the Precision Ag Manager, the Precision Ag Specialist is accountable for the implementation and expansion of the Precision Ag Services offered by FS PARTNERS including soil sampling, variable rate prescriptions, yield data and ROI analysis, spatial data, record keeping, crop scouting program, field trials and 4R Nutrient Stewardship. The Precision Ag Specialist is responsible for the hiring and training of the FS PARTNERS crop scouts and is responsible for providing technical support on all agronomy related issues to FS PARTNERS crop specialists, branch staff and customers. The incumbent will also provide a level of sales support and development which will generate sales to meet the company's overall objectives

 

 

SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

 

Direct reports would be the seasonal Crop Scouts hired by FS PARTNERS.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Leads and implements Precision Ag strategies to support the growth of Precision Ag Services Develops and maintains target market list of Precision Ag prospects and develop and implement sales strategies for these prospects through on farm calls in conjunction with the Crop Specialists.

 

Lead sustainability principles of 4R Nutrient Stewardship at designated FS PARTNERS hubs through best management practices, data collection, training and implementation.

 

Ensures the latest Precision Ag products and services are used to position GROWMARK as the leader in the marketplace by developing support information management and Precision Ag programs.

 

Organizes appropriate training for Crop Scouts, sales staff and Hub Managers on Precision Ag products and services.

 

Facilitates the agronomic benefits and promotion of products and services that are core to FS PARTNERS business plan.

 

Coordinates and initiates field plots, demonstration plots ("MiField" and “Bringing You Whats Next”), educational customer meetings and public relations events, working with the customer and the Crop Specialist to ensure the goal of promoting products and services is achieved.

 

Examines and analyzes the results of crop studies to discover and enhance characteristics such as yield, quality, adaptation to specific soils or climates, and resistance to diseases and pests.

 

Studies crop production to discover best methods of planting, cultivation, harvesting, and effects of various climatic conditions on crops. Scouts fields to ensure they meet the appropriate agronomic conditions and provides recommendations towards improving and increasing customer satisfaction and yields.

 

Implements improved methods of pest management, seed technology and fertility management, provides continuous observation and inspection to ensure improved methods are effective.

 

Keep an open line of communication with all key suppliers, and industry personnel.

 

Work on building long term relationships with product suppliers and GROWMARK product divisions.

 

Maintains relationships with customers and promotes confidence in FS PARTNERS ability to meet required service levels.

 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Maintain records of services provided and the effects of advice given.

 

Creates and participates in presentations during customer meetings and trade shows, as required. Attends industry meetings/conferences and provides summary of pertinent information to relevant staff.

 

Actively participates in education and training provided by GROWMARK with the purpose of refining agronomy and selling skills.

 

Performs other tasks associated with the handling and/or manufacturing of fertilizer, Ag chemicals and seed handled by FS PARTNERS.

 

Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes in all areas, e.g.: safety, credit, proper management of assets, pricing, uniforms, etc. and maintains the appropriate professional image.

 

Follow the GROWMARK Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) a supervisor must: ensure that a worker complies with the Act and regulations; ensure that any equipment, protective device or clothing required by the employer is used or worn by the worker; advise a worker of any potential or actual health or safety dangers known by the supervisor; if prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions about the measures and procedures to be taken for the worker’s protection and take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

    Education and Experience

 

Normally requires a bachelor's degree in agriculture or in a related science, plus relevant experience and knowledge of agronomy, fertilizer, crop protection, seed, and precision ag software.

 

Have three or more years of agronomy and sales experience, maintaining a valid CCA-ON accreditation.

 

    Functional Competencies

 

Understanding the experience with agronomy-related areas including marketing and sales, branding, products, price strategy, competitive adeptness, negotiation, product proficiency, resources optimization and policies and procedures along with marketing strategy, plans, program execution, budgeting and communications.

 

Proven professional communication, interpersonal, persuasion, presentation, and customer service skills.

 

Proven sales leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in order to build credibility, rapport, relationships, identify producer needs, make whole farm proposals, and demonstrate strong closing techniques.

 

Demonstrated planning, organization, problem solving, and project management skills.

 

Proven team building skills with the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

 

Proven computer skills and the ability to learn new software keeping up to date with the fast-moving industry.

    Other Requirements

 

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel independently and overnight as necessary.

 

May be required to work extended hours during peak season.

 

Must be able to be trained in GROWMARK’s Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures, including Accident Reporting, Emergency Response Plan, Fire Safety, General Safety Rules, Health & Safety Rights, Health & Safety Roles and Responsibilities, Safe Manual Lifting, Slips Trips and Falls, and WHMIS. May be required to be trained in the following: Defensive Driving, Respirator Fit Testing, CPR.
