Grain Originator / Office Administration

AgRail, LLC – Bloomington, Illinois

 

Position Summary

The Grain Originator is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with local producers in order to originate grain for AgRail. This position focuses on customer service, grain merchandising support, and helping producers market their grain effectively while meeting the company’s origination goals.

In addition to origination responsibilities, the Grain Originator will assist with general office functions and support daily operations at the AgRail facility. This role works closely with other office staff, the facility Superintendent and General Manager to ensure a high level of service for our customers.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Grain Origination & Customer Relationships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local farmers and elevators.
  • Actively originate corn, soybeans, and other commodities for the AgRail facility.
  • Communicate daily bids, market information, and marketing opportunities to customers.
  • Assist producers with grain marketing decisions and contract options.
  • Write and manage grain contracts including cash, forward, HTA, and basis contracts.
  • Work with management to help manage grain positions and meet origination targets.
  • Identify opportunities to grow AgRail’s grain supply in the trade territory.
  • Stay informed on market conditions and communicate relevant information to customers.

 

Office & Administrative Support

  • Assist with general office tasks including answering phones, general inquiries, bill paying and other functions as needed.
  • Assist with issuing grain settlements and customer payments

 

Operational Support

  • Support scale operations when needed.
  • Assist with logistics, delivery scheduling, and customer communication.
  • Help ensure accurate paperwork and documentation for grain transactions.
  • Work collaboratively with AgRail teammates to ensure efficient operations.

 

Work Schedule

Standard Office Hours: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm

During harvest and other busy periods, extended hours will be required. Harvest typically runs approximately 6–8 weeks and may include evenings and weekend hours as needed to support customer deliveries and facility operations.

 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of agriculture and grain markets preferred.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn grain accounting or merchandising software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, business, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in grain origination, ag sales, or farming operations is beneficial.
