Summary
M & M Service Company has an exciting opportunity in our Grain Department. We are looking for a Grain Originator / Merchandiser to work with producers in our trade area. You will work extensively with producers in procuring grain and setting up marketing programs along with working with merchandiser in marketing grain. Candidates must be able to make decisions and work independently, be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- With limited guidance, make professional contact with farmer producers, and serve as the face of M & M Service to customers. Update them on market trends, current quotes, and agriculture business overall.
- Work to grow M & M’s business with new customers and in new regions.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with key accounts. Gain in-depth knowledge and insights into customer’s goals, in order to target procurement tactics.
- Communicate bid changes and closing bids to customers.
- Interpret industry reports and understand changes and trends.
- Plan, develop, and implement standard purchasing strategies and tactics, in accordance with M & M policies and guidelines.
- Collaborate internally (i.e. Grain Department Manager, Senior Grain Administrator, Facility Managers and Grain Administrators) to exchange information as needed.
- Help establish and communicate storage and drying rates and basic contracts.
- Help develop and implement grain merchandising programs including sales and hedging contracts, margins, bids, and open grain positions.
- Able to determine daily bids, select best bids and monitor competitor bids.
- Maintains consolidated daily position and other grain related records as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
- Collaborate with all M & M Service departments (Crops, Energy) to create synergies in our system.
REQUIREMENTS
- Normally requires a college degree, preferably in Ag Economics, Ag Marketing or Agri-Business or the equivalent thereof, and 3 or more years of experience in agricultural marketing and the ability to provide grain Origination leadership, problem-solving and planning skills
- Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must have the ability to travel independently and overnight when necessary
- Must be willing to work extended hours beyond those considered “normal”
- Occasionally lift 21-50 lbs.
- Occasionally performs work in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
- Occasionally performs duties around noisy conditions
- Working conditions may include dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safety measures
