Sunrise FS is headquartered in Virginia, Illinois, with branches in Cass, Champaign, Clark, Douglas, Edgar, Mason and Vermillion counties. Sunrise FS has about 200 employees (including seasonal workers) and approximately 14,000 customers. The cooperative does business in agronomy, energy, grain, tires, irrigation, and retail. Sunrise FS is part of the GROWMARK System, an agricultural cooperative serving more than 100,000 customers across North America and Ontario, Canada.

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

Maximize profitable results through effective and efficient management, supervision, and leadership of the assigned business unit. The Business Unit Manager is responsible for personnel, asset management, logistics, dispatching, and inventory within the business unit, while ensuring operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and compliance with company standards.

 

SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

Provides supervision and leadership for all assigned personnel within the business unit.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Personnel Management

  • Hires, supervises, coaches, and develops both full-time and part-time employees required to operate the business unit.
  • Assists with training and development of assigned personnel on operational procedures, application technology, and company standards.
  • Schedules and leads regularly scheduled team meetings to ensure alignment and communication.

Asset Management

  • Maintains all equipment and facilities in a neat and professional manner and ensures all maintenance records are kept current and accurate.
  • Responsible for the oversight and accountability of all assets assigned to the business unit.
  • Ensures all vehicles, equipment, and technology are maintained and operated in accordance with company standards and policies.

Logistics & Dispatching

  • Oversees logistics operations within the business unit, ensuring timely and efficient movement of products and resources.
  • Manages dispatching activities to optimize application schedules and service levels for customers.
  • Supports and drives the utilization of Agvance planning, blending, and dispatch systems.
  • Accountable for providing timely, professional delivery and service of applicable products and services to customers utilizing company-approved processes and procedures.

Inventory Management

  • Orders, maintains, and controls inventory according to company guidelines.
  • Monitors inventory levels to ensure adequate supply while minimizing excess and waste.
  • Ensures accurate inventory records are maintained in applicable company systems.

Sales, Finance & Administration

  • Assists with profitable sales and services of applicable products and programs to assigned customers and prospects.
  • Develops and implements business plans that maximize business unit profitability, including annual budget establishment and timely submittal upon request.
  • Assists with the billing of products and services according to company policies and procedures.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Attains and maintains all technical and sales skills required.
  • Supports and contributes to total company goals and objectives through collaboration efforts.
  • Responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle according to company standards, adhering to the uniform policy, and maintaining the appropriate professional image.
  • Follows GROWMARK's Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA, and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Normally requires an Associate’s Degree in agricultural, business, or operations-related discipline, or the equivalent thereof, and 3 or more years of supervisory work experience demonstrating the ability to effectively manage facilities, personnel, logistics, and assets.
  • Understanding and experience with inventory management, logistics, dispatching, competitive adeptness, customer credit worthiness, and product knowledge and proficiency.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to travel independently and overnight as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all applicable certifications, licenses (including CDL), and permits required of the position.
  • Ability to work extended hours as business conditions warrant.
  • Prefer an understanding of GROWMARK agronomy and/or energy operations.
  • Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making, and skill development.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in required training, including education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
  • Ability to learn all applicable company computer programs as required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasionally exposed or required to:

  • Extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, snow, ice, etc.)
  • Noisy conditions
  • Working conditions may include dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safety measures
  • May be required to work at varying heights
  • Lift 51–70 lbs.

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.  In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for bonuses, incentives, and commissions.
