Western Region Manager - Topflight Grain Cooperative - Lincoln, IL

SUMMARY:

 

This position, under the direction of the Topflight Grain General Manager, oversees the day-to-day operational, logistical, and grain orientation activities of the Western Region, consisting of Atlanta, Beason, Johnston Siding, Kruger, and Tabor elevator locations. This includes, but is not limited to, coordination of all Topflight operations, office, and trucking resources, developing customer relationships, and providing a superior level of customer service via efficient and dependable elevators. Helps develop big picture plan for grain activities in the Western Division.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Must gain working knowledge of all equipment and machinery at Atlanta, Beason, Johnston Siding, Kruger, and Tabor facilities and able to instruct staff on

proper usage.

 

Coordinates and dispatches trucks for hauling grain in Western Region.

 

Direct blending of grain for storage and shipment for region.

 

Coordinates repair/preventative maintenance work with Operations Manager and

 

Maintenance crew.

 

Builds relationships with current customers, and establishes relationships with potential customers.

 

Develop storage plan for harvest deliveries.

 

Oversees that Operations and Office employees maintain safe and sanitary workplaces and promote safety among the employees and customers.

 

Works with management team to develop an annual financial budget and projected cash flow statement.

Communicates daily with location Elevator Superintendents on grain loading/unloading plans.

 

Maintain market information and provide patrons with current grain market information.

 

Oversees the Office and Origination staff and ensures they maintain safe and sanitary workplaces and promote safety among the employees and customers.

 

Responsible for establishing and maintaining a work environment that promotes customer and employee satisfaction.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Gain an extensive knowledge of cooperative philosophies and principles, customer base, and competition.

 

Works with management team to develop and implement grain strategic plans, operating and fixed budgets.

 

Responsible for setting company and employee policy and ensuring all employees are aware of policies and updates/changes.

 

Responsible for the determination of manpower requirements; selection of competent personnel with potential for development.

 

Oversees grain marketing programs and customer communications.

 

Have thorough knowledge of grain contracts available and be aware of marketing options/resources for customers.

 

Works to resolve employee and customer concerns/complaints.

 

Seeks new business in authorized trade territory.

 

Maintains proper grain dealer, grain warehouse, and regulatory requirements.

Responsible for Operations employees annual reviews and working with employees to develop goals to encourage employee personal growth and improvement.

 

Keeps current on industry issues, local/state/federal regulations, and pending legislation affecting the cooperative.

 

Attends and participates in industry groups, meetings and educational events to further personal knowledge of the business.

 

Attends and participates in community events/groups to promote and foster the company's relationship with the community.

 

Able to work under time constraints.

 

Good communication skills with customers and fellow employees.

 

Exhibit regular and prompt attendance. Exhibit a professional image and maintain a positive and respectful attitude.

 

Willing to work weekends, seasonal hours, holidays, on-call, and overtime if needed.

 

 

POSTION QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of the Agricultural Industry preferred.

Extensive knowledge of government (OSHA, State, Federal, etc.) regulations for employees and concerning the handling and storing of grain.

 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School education or equivalent. College and/or 6+ years work experience preferred.

 

Requires supervisory experience.

 

Experience in regulatory compliance and budget/planning.

 

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

 

Other certificates or licenses may be necessary.

 

Pesticide Applicator's License necessary or able to be obtained.

 

Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License to have ability to travel between locations and to various company/industry events.

 

Class D Driver's license required to drive any company pick-up truck. Class B CDL license or higher if required to drive any company vehicle over 26,001 pounds or towing not in excess of 10,000 pounds. Class A CDL license required to drive any company vehicle over 26,001 pounds or towing in excess of 10,000 pounds.

 

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Strong Customer Service Skills, Computer Skills, and Microsoft Office proficient.

 

Speaking—effective communication among employees and customers.

 

Time Management/Planning/Organization.

 

A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required and must be adaptable, a self-starter, and dependable.

 

Demonstrate initiative to work independently, while able to work in a team setting as needed.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Significant time is spent outside, or in a grain elevator. Frequent exposure to noise from machinery, alarms, and grain trucks. Exposure to a variety of weather situations when loading trucks/rail and exposure to grain dust. Frequent exposure to moving, mechanical parts in elevator and on grain trucks.
