Shop Mechanic
Summary: Repair, maintains and overhauls pickup truck, diesel and gasoline powered industrial trucks, automotive vehicles, and other company equipment performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Examine vehicles and discuss with driver or operator the nature and extent of damage or malfunction,
Observes and listens to vehicles in operation to determine malfunction,
Remove units such as engine, transmission, or differential,
Disassembles units and inspect parts for wear,
Repairs or replaces parts, such as piston, rods, gears, valves, and bearing, if economically feasible.
Overhauls or replaces engines, carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
Install new ignition system, change, or recharges batteries, and replace other parts.
Rewires ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
Relines and adjust brakes, repairs, or replaces shock absorbers, and solder leak in radiator.
Replaces and adjusts headlights and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments.
Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
Fabricates special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints, or schematic drawings.
With supervision, contacts vendors by telephone or personal visit to order parts.
Compare invoices against requisitions to verify quality and quantity of merchandise received.
Stores purchased parts in storeroom bins and issues part to workers upon request.
Keeps records of parts received and inventions part periodically.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Indirectly supervises part-time employees in the maintenance department. Fulfills indirect supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include training employees; planning assigning and directly work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; developing employees that are promotable within the company.
Relationships: Work closely with the Facility Maintenance Specialist on large and/or special projects. Routinely supervises location Service Personnel as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or on to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid class A Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Materials, Tanker and Airbrake and Doubles/Triple endorsements. Diesel mechanic certification is highly desired.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for bonuses, incentives, and commissions.
