Grain Originator - FS Partners - Mitchell, ON

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

Under the direction of the Branch Manager, the Origination Specialist will generate revenue by proactively originating grain from existing customer base and non-targeted clients, and consult regularly with clients to ascertain client needs while developing long-term relationships. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing grain-marketing programs to provide profitable solutions.

ESSENTIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Purchase grain for delivery into company facilities and direct delivery markets.

 

Complete all administrative functions related to these purchases including contracts, settlements and provide updates to the Grain Merchandizers.

 

Provide market information and cash grain bids to patrons aligned with the established grain marketing plan for your branch location.

 

Provide ongoing market information and feedback to Branch Managers, Grain Origination Coach, Zone Grain Originators and Grain Merchandisers to support the development of effective procurement plans.

 

Work to establish the company as the first choice in value-added grain marketing. Work closely with the branch team to support the marketing, customer experience and advisory sales efforts of the company through information on prospects, problems, and opportunities. Use target marketing, segmentation, and market analysis to facilitate origination to support customers and grow market share.

 

Acquire new business through regular contact with current and prospective customers.

 

Work with drivers, customers and facility personnel to set the time and location of on-farm and field pick-up purchases.

 

Understand and follow all health & safety, environment policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

 

    Education and Experience

 

Normally requires a college diploma or university degree in agriculture/business or related field or 3 or more years of related experience.

 

Demonstrated well-rounded knowledge of relevant commodities (corn, soybeans, and wheat), working knowledge, and experience with Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc.

 

    Functional Competencies

 

Understanding of the Grain Market, including: marketing strategy, grain risk management; market information, conditions and trends; price strategy, branding, promotions, industry relations, policies and procedures, compliance and communications.

 

Proven ability to build credibility, rapport and professional relationships, assess business opportunities, and negotiate appropriate agreements with customers.

 

Demonstrated ability to work independently as a self-starter, while being committed to being a positive team player by displaying ongoing dedication in assisting branch staff and co-workers in both performance and reward.

Demonstrated professional communication skills oral and written, with proven ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Demonstrated mathematical skills with the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest, currency exchanges, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

 

Ability to apply these concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Demonstrated ability to efficiently work with Microsoft office computer programs in order to maintain client database system, send and receive electronic mail, perform word processing, access information over the internet and develop spreadsheets or graphic documents to enhance business processes.

 

Demonstrated reasoning ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

 

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Other Requirements

 

Must have and maintain a valid G driver’s license and a clean driving abstract and additionally be able to obtain various certificates as required for this position.

 

May be required to work extended hours, particularly during peak seasons.

 

Must be able to be trained in GROWMARK’s Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures, including Accident Reporting, Emergency Response Plan, Fire Safety, General Safety Rules, Health & Safety Rights, Health & Safety Roles and Responsibilities, Safe Manual Lifting, Slips Trips and Falls, and WHMIS. May be required to be trained in the following: Defensive Driving.
