Controller - FS GRAIN - Morris, IL
Salary Range: $60,000 - $85,000
PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and financial activities, including reporting, budgeting, risk management, and regulatory compliance within a dynamic agricultural environment. This role ensures the accuracy of financial records and provides strategic financial insights to support operational decision making.
SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP
Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, inventory, and payroll.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, monthly close reports, and variance analyses.
Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow projections.
Monitor grain inventory valuation and commodity hedging activities.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and industry-specific financial reporting standards.
Lead internal controls, financial audits, and risk management strategies.
Supervise accounting team and coordinate with outside auditors banking partners.
Work closely with operations, grain merchandising, and logistics teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
Evaluate profitability by location and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost savings.
Implement and maintain ERP or accounting software tailored for agribusiness.
Track and manage fixed assets and capital expenditure.
Offer leadership and financial accuracy during peak periods such as harvest and contract fulfillment.
Stay current with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting the grain sector.
Represent the company at FS controller meetings and other professional gatherings.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs all other duties as assigned to support the financial integrity and business goals of the company.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
Strong proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems (ag-specific software experience preferred).
Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
Ability to analyze complex financial data and present actionable insights.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Ability to work extended hours as business conditions warrant.
Ability to travel independently and overnight.
