Grain Settlement Representative - FS GRAIN - Morris, IL

Job Title: Grain Settlement Representative 

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT 
Under the direction of the Settlement Manager, the Grain Settlement Representative is responsible for managing various tasks related to customer and vendor accounts. This includes creating tickets, applying shipments to contracts, handling payment and invoicing for freight, and maintaining state price later contracts. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Serve as the expert in grain settlements and account management, ensuring timely and accurate settlements. 

  • Have a basic understanding of all contract types and related fees/payment options. 

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of state price later contracts, ensuring compliance with company and state policies. 

  • Assist with maintaining accurate records of grain sales, purchases, and hedge activities, reporting these to merchandisers in a timely manner. 

  • Read freight logs, create vouchers, and ensure appropriate payment. 

  • Create, track, and notify appropriate parties regarding overdue invoices monthly. 

  • Maintain customer grain accounts, including contract applications, record updates, and settlements. 

  • Ensure accurate daily contract maintenance and reconciliation. 

  • Communicate effectively with merchandising, customer service teams, customers, and vendors to ensure accurate shipment applications. 

  • Use a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to manage customer profiles, opportunities, contracts, freight, and other essential details. 

  • Promote customer technology usage and assist patrons when needed. 

  • Provide coverage for other settlement-related areas as needed. 

  • Foster a positive work environment with a focus on leadership, teamwork, profitability, and competitiveness. 

  • Adhere to company policies regarding expenses, PTO, and vehicle usage reporting. 

  • Attend all required meetings and training programs. 

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, promoting FS GRAIN’s safety culture. 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Associate degree or 2 years of grain accounting experience preferred. 

  • Customer service experience in agriculture preferred. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and agricultural accounting software. 

  • Knowledge of cooperative philosophies and principles is preferred. 

  • Valid driver's license required, with the ability to work independently and travel when necessary. 

  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours when required. 

KEY COMPETENCIES 

  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize the Grain Accounting System to generate necessary reports and manage accounts payable/receivable, deductions, and freight payments. 

  • Strong time management skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to identify inefficiencies in processes and suggest improvements for better customer service and streamlined operations. 

  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitive pricing, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Excellent team-building skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 

  • Proficient computer skills and a strong ability to use technology to enhance business operations. 

  • Demonstrated competencies in business knowledge, communication, customer focus, decision making, and skill development.
