Petroleum Sales and Delivery Specialist

PAY RANGE: $55,000 to $70,000 / year

Compensation is determined based on your experience and qualifications.

 

In addition to base pay, you may be eligible for commission, performance-based increases, and bonuses.

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

The Petroleum Sales and Delivery Service Specialist role combines sales, logistics, and technical support, ensuring customers receive high-quality petroleum products and exceptional service. The specialist will be responsible for managing customer relationships, selling petroleum products, and safely delivering fuel, lubricants, and related services to customers.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Market and deliver energy products and services at profitable levels to patrons and target prospects in designated territory. This will be accomplished by the following:

  1. Showing a caring attitude towards the individual and the individual's operation.
  2. Thorough knowledge of the customer's operations, needs, concerns, and goals.
  3. Become established as the leading problem solver in the trade area.
  4. Work together as a key member within the Prairieland FS Team.
  5. Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude while developing strong relationships with customers, understanding their fuel and lubricant needs.
  6. Educate customers on fuel storage best practices, environmental compliance, and safety regulations.
  7. Provide basic troubleshooting assistance for fuel storage systems and dispensing equipment.
  8. Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations regarding petroleum product handling and transportation.

 

Selling efficiency & skills - Utilize and always work to improve the following:

  1. The FS Sales interview road map.
  2. Identify new business opportunities and expand the customer base within the assigned territory.
  3. Understanding customer behavior styles.
  4. Assisting in competitive analysis and strategies in your trade territory.
  5. Handling customer complaints promptly and with appropriate procedures.
  6. Adhere to and support the company credit policy, checking credit history of patrons before making sales, and explaining the credit policy to new customers. 
  7. Collects on accounts as needed according to the credit policy. Support the efforts of the Ag-Finance/Credit Manager.
  8. Thanking your customer for their past and future business.

 

Programs & Promotions - Use the Prairieland FS Marketing Plans as your guide and outline throughout the fiscal year:

  1. Communicate marketing programs and deliver sales promotion materials to customers and prospects.
  2. Establishes a route system in the delivery territory and delivers petroleum products according to customer requirements.
  3. Utilizing various seasonal product fill programs.

 

Records & Reports - Maintain the following records:

  1. Maintain accurate customer files, including tank information, sales delivery dates, and other pertinent details, while recording sales and delivery information on daily sales logs to ensure all transactions are properly documented in accordance with company policies and industry standards.
  2. Prepares order forms and sales contracts/bookings.
  3. Submits required reports promptly as requested by supervisor and communicates activities in trade territory on a regular basis.
  4. Report monthly inventory and use controls to ensure no loss of product.

  4. Maintain the company vehicle by performing basic maintenance as needed and conducting routine inspections of delivery equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Provide assistance to other departments on an as-needed basis and continue to support all other areas of our business when all other assigned work is complete.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of this facility.

REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Experience

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional training in sales, logistics, or the petroleum industry preferred.
  • Previous experience in petroleum sales, delivery, or fuel distribution preferred.
  • Familiarity with fuel products, delivery procedures, and safety regulations.

Other Requirements

 

  • Obtain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with required endorsements (e.g., HazMat, Tanker) within six months of employment and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Ability to work hours other than those considered normal at various times throughout the year to meet deadlines and demands.
  • The role may require occasional travel to other company locations or industry events, with the ability to travel independently and stay overnight as needed.
