AGRONOMY SALES MANAGER

Pay range: $80,000 - $130,000
SUMMARY STATEMENT: This position will be responsible for execution of all sales and marketing programs, in support of volume and profitability goals of Sunderland Co-operative Inc. The position of Sales Manager, Agronomy will bring passion to the workplace through your desire to be our client’s premier Ag partner for success and to see Sunderland Co-op grow into the premier agronomy provider in the territory.
You will be co-leader of the Agronomy Management Team and play a very significant role in executing our goals and objectives. The selected candidate will be responsible for the development and market growth of our Agronomy Division for the company.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Build a sales team to have coordinated goals and objectives that will grow the business and to develop profitable professional relationships with customers;
- Develop sales objectives and communicate goals and expectations to the sales team;
- Oversee day-to-day sales activities and work in partnership with the Operations Manager to monitor progress, customer service level, areas for improvement;
- Works in partnership with Operations Manager to develop plans and budgets to enable the Co-op to deliver against company goals;
- Coach, mentor, and organize training for sales staff to help them achieve their goals;
- Assist in the identification of target customers and a sales strategy approach to achieve the desired results;
- Continue to adopt and develop the use of Agvance SKY mapping which will enable for further adoption of SKY’s host of capabilities (i.e. Dispatch, Warehouse, etc.);
- Coordinate the introduction and adoption of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to include customer profiles, segmentation, and database information.
- Elevate the profile of the sales group within the organization;
- Encourage and incentivize Sales team to achieve Professional Sales Certification, Certification in Agri Marketing, and the Certified Crop Advisor program.
- Implement a reporting and accountability system to assist the sales team to achieve profitable sales targets and deliver acceptable margins;
- Continue to adopt and develop the sales incentive program (i.e. ASP) for Crop Specialists;
- Develop and execute sales and promotion programs that are consistent with overall business and marketing goals of the company;
- Direct and implement the administration of profitable pricing programs;
- Manage the introduction of new product offerings, as well as communication plans, product training, marketing and sales kits and partnership programs;
- Provide direction in the development of strategic plans and initiatives, financial budgets and forecasts, and operational and distribution plans;
- Work in conjunction with other Senior Managers to determine pricing, volumes and specialized programs for delivery to our customers;
- Coordinates and initiates plot tours, crop days, educational farmer meetings and public relation events on behalf of the sales team and Co-op;
- Reviews all advertising for brand equity and conformity to approved guidelines;
- Set the tone and pace for the sales effort by demonstrating personal dedication, energy and passion to produce solid growth and performance;
- Serve as the internal champion of customers’ requirements and business opportunities;
- Works closely with the Marketing associate to develop promotional products/advertisements;
- Analyzes financial and operational results and takes appropriate corrective action when needed;
- Ensures that a job description and Performance Review for all sales staff are reviewed annually;
- Recruit, hire, train sales staff to meet the needs of the sales plan and/or provide for seamless succession planning;
- Participate actively in corporate development programs;
- Provides leadership in achieving profit objectives;
- Provides day-to-day leadership and supervision of personnel and ensures adoption of approved corporate policies;
- Advises members and customers about new products and services;
- Oversees the accurate and timely reporting of sales results;
- Provides support and assistance to alliance partners and professional organizations when required;
- Provides on-farm visits (discussions, samples, information, etc) with sales staff; **SALES STAFF SUPPORT
- Understands and follows the Company’s health and safety and environmental polices and procedures;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Preferred degree or diploma in agriculture, BSc; or business-related field is required, a MBA will be looked upon favorably;
- 5+ years of sales experience and an additional 5+ years in a leadership or management capacity;
- Ability to build credibility, rapport and relationships at all levels of an organization;
- Ability to work independently while being a team player;
- Ability to operate on the strategic and tactical levels within an organization;
- Demonstrated problem solving skills including problem analysis, evaluation and implementation of solutions;
- Demonstrates and demands a positive customer service behavior;
- Demonstrated professional communication, interpersonal, persuasion and presentation skills at a high level in the organization;
- Demonstrated ability in developing and executing the sales strategy and plans of an evolving, growing and progressive company;
- Desire to develop and mentor people;
- Extensive knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc;
- Strong leadership, team integration, and analytical skills;
- Individual must be hands-on and deadline oriented with strength in handling numerous tasks in fast paced environment;
- Proven ability as an independent self-starter, creative problem-solver, and successful relationship builder;
- Proven understanding of agricultural industry, not limited to seed, crop protection and fertilizers;
- Proven ability to develop and strengthen partnerships and alliances inside and outside the organization;
- Proven leadership skills, including imparting vision, supervision, employee development, and teambuilding;
