Assistant Controller
REPORTS TO: CFO STATUS: Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $95,000 - $105,000
PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
Provides leadership and oversight for tax compliance, tax planning, reporting, and related accounting functions,
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares sales, motor fuel, excise and franchise tax reports and returns to state and federal agencies. Responsible for monitoring various tax law changes and preparing tax planning strategies.
Provides direction, oversight, and recommendations to management regarding tax compliance and planning (federal, state, and local), audit preparation support, payroll-related reporting, and related accounting controls.
Ensures that supporting schedules and documentation (including tax-related workpapers) are prepared in advance of the annual audit to reduce audit time and expense and support accurate reporting.
Develops and implements tax strategies, planning and compliance for all federal, state and local taxes.
Prepares and/or reviews reports required by regulatory agencies, tax-related schedules, and supporting documentation.
Supports cash management activities as needed and maintains appropriate accounting documentation and controls.
Partners with internal departments and external advisors to support tax, audit, and compliance objectives.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Supports the monthly financial close process, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.
Prepares and reviews balance sheet account reconciliations; investigates and resolves reconciling items in a timely manner.
Provides direction for systems training and uniformity of accounting, reporting and inventory control between all locations.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Normally requires a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance, and at least 6 years’ experience in accounting or finance or related area to demonstrate financial leadership in the areas of risk analysis, cost/benefit analysis, internal controls, auditing and budgeting.
Demonstrated essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Must be able to travel independently and overnight.
Must be able to work hours beyond those considered normal.
Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on Conserv FS’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to base pay, certain roles may be eligible for bonuses, incentives, and commissions.
