Controller - Wanstead Farmers Cooperative - Plympton-Wyoming, ON
Wanstead Farmers Co-operative Co., Limited is a farmer owned co-operative that prides itself on providing quality agronomic and grain marketing solutions for our customers/owners. The co-operative continues to expand and is seeking an experienced accountant to assume the role of Financial Controller. This position would report to the General Manager. Duties and Responsibilities:
• Mentor and lead the accounting team through coaching and development to foster a strong team and “team player” attitude.
• Drive compliance in the organization with all financial policies, procedure and internal controls. Advise on the establishment and on-going review of all financial and accounting policies and procedures; ensure adequate education and awareness of these is prevalent in the organization. Ensure adequate internal controls are in place, in particular for asset and inventory management.
• Lead and drive a continuous improvement mindset for financial processes, systems, and reporting.
• Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial reporting. Responsible for managing all aspects of corporate accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, inventory, tax and other required reporting in a timely and accurate manner. Perform on-going Balance Sheet review and analysis. Be present at monthly board meetings.
• Responsible for all aspects of the general ledger, including journal entries, month end and year end journal entries and closing of periods and year end.
• Responsible for preparation of all working papers required for the annual audit, organizing inventory counts and other audit requirements.
• Participate in the development of strategic and business plans. Participate in activities pertaining to new ventures and capital projects.
• Prepare the annual budget.
• Prepare reports that summarize and forecast business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
• Responsible for payroll.
• Lead implementation of new enhancements to our ERP software systems.
• Key areas within the human resources department will also be managed by the Controller, including policy and procedure compliance and ongoing maintenance of HR practices.
Required Qualifications
• Professional accounting designation CPA.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial accounting.
• Demonstrable ability to effectively manage, motivate and supervise personnel.
• Excellent knowledge of computerized accounting systems and the Office 365 Suite.
• The successful candidate will be self-directed and possess the ability to use judgement when setting priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical skills and interpersonal skills.
