Shop Manager - GROWMARK Tank and Truck Center - Waterloo, IA

Responsible for profitably operating the GTTC in accordance with established standards and in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.




This position Supervises, leads and develops Tank and Truck Technician employees. 




Serves as primary customer contact for service inquiries, soliciting work, providing quotations, closing sales, and maintaining on-going communications with customers.  Provides customers service, operational directions, and on-site visits to ensure customer satisfaction with truck performance.


Administers the regulatory requirements of the business including:  DOT rules, R-stamp and ASME procedures, OSHA compliance, NTHSA vehicle certification, security plans, and company EHS policies. 


Develops training schedules to ensure employees comply with regulatory requirements and EHS policies. Conducts and/or coordinates training, and monitors/reinforces application.


Oversees location billings, monitors inventory levels and keeps within capital guidelines, places orders, reports and monitors man hours, and administers warranty service and vendor recovery.


Establishes work schedules to maximize through-put of the facility, plans individual jobs to anticipate/resolve problems early, maintains communications with customers to keep them posted of change orders, and works to meet customer expectations.


Maintains a professional work environment and is responsible for facility looks and cleanliness.


Assists with performing installation, repairs, testing, rebuilding, fabrication and maintenance of trucks in a professional, timely, and customer focused manner while complying with all procedures and regulations.



Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply

Performs other duties as assigned.




Normally requires a high school education or equivalent and a minimum of 5 yrs experience performing DOT regulated work.

Understanding of CFR49 regulations and ability to explain, train and inspect.

Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.

Occasionally exposed to noisy conditions, working conditions with dust, fumes, chemicals, and may be required to work at varying heights and able to lift and carry 50 pounds .

Proven supervisory and leadership skills, professional communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills, team building skills and the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Demonstrated GROWMARK core competencies including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making, skill development and computer skills.

Must have and maintain a valid drivers’ license.  A CDL is preferred, but not required.

Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
