Fleet Maintenance Manager - Manito Transit - Bloomington, IL

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

This position, reporting to the General Manager, will be responsible for management of equipment purchases and sales, tractor and trailer maintenance, tire programs, vendor selection and fuel economies.

 

This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate policies and DOT regulations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Responsible for tractor and trailer maintenance, tires, equipment leasing and fuel expenses across a fleet of 150 tractors and 250 trailers at 18 Midwestern locations.

 

Leads long term planning for the purchase and sale of Manito equipment based on financial benefits and operational needs.

 

Responsible for technical specifications related to the purchase of tractors and trailers within the Manito fleet.

 

Responsible for a fleet wide fuel economy improvement initiative with an MPG improvement target of 3-5%.

 

Leads operational response to issues including breakdowns, accidents, cross drops, tank pump outs and spills.

 

Strong management of cost controls within the Manito vendor network through the use purchase order compliance.

 

Management of the Manito tire program and vendor selection.

 

Role includes evaluation and recommendation for enhanced fleet maintenance software which meets both D.O.T. and company requirements. The recommendation will include a cost/benefit analysis.

 

Responsible for ensuring equipment and maintenance files are in compliance with all applicable D.O.T. regulations.

 

Negotiates service agreements to ensure a strong balance between cost, quality and service.

 

Conducts PeopleNet training and assists new and current drivers with PeopleNet issues.

 

Responsible for both scheduled and random equipment inspections.

 

Initiates reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing as appropriate.

 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Fielding calls after hours calls and provide assistance as needed.

 

Driving on behalf of company is required.

 

Work closely with the dispatch team to coordinate equipment maintenance scheduling.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Normally requires a technical or vocational training in equipment maintenance or the equivalent thereof, and 3-5 years or more of operations related work experience to demonstrate knowledge of planning, organization, problem solving, and project management and computer proficiency.

 

Prefer understanding of CFR49 regulations and ability to explain, train and inspect.

 

Work environment could include: 

  • Extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
  • Noisy conditions
  • Working conditions may include dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safety measures
  • May be required to work at varying heights
  • Confined spaces
  • Lift 51-70 pounds
  • Required to push heavy objects

 

ASME Certification is desirable.

 

Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.

           

Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

 

Valid Class A driver’s license with hazmat and tanker endorsement preferred.

 

Ability to work extended hours as business conditions warrant.

 

Ability to travel independently and overnight as needed.

 

Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.

 

Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
