Accountant - Seedway - Hall, NY


Seedway is headquartered in Hall, New York with branches in Pennsylvania, Florida, Vermont, Maine, and New York. Seedway has about 220 employees (including seasonal workers) and approximately 15,000 customers. The cooperative does business in farm, vegetable, and turf seed. Seedway is part of the GROWMARK System, an agricultural cooperative serving more than 100,000 customers across North America and Ontario, Canada.



The accountant will prepare and review general ledger entries, and reconciliations as well as maintain aspects of the general ledger. They will contribute to the preparation of monthly statements.





Responsible for day-to-day accounting of financial reporting, reconciliation of cash accounts, balance

sheet accounts, integrity reports and inventory. Provide various monthly reports and reconciliations. Prepare year end information and reports. Work with auditors and provide information required for internal and external audits. Provide accounting support for month-end and year-end closings.


Analyze and resolve G/L issues as needed.  Work with IT as necessary to insure ledger totals balance to files.


Review system reports daily; correct and update as needed.


Supply G/L numbers for coding and accounting procedures as needed.


Reconcile A/P monthly vendor statements.


Maintain fixed asset files. Prepare and provide AFE & ASD for new or retired assets. Reconcile ledger to GROWMARK fixed asset system. Prepare asset reports for Controller.





Perform special assignments and assist Controller. Assist in development of office procedure guidelines to improve office efficiency.


Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.


Performs all other duties as assigned.





Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or the equivalent thereof.


Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.


Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.


Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality.


Ability to travel independently and overnight.


Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
