Summer Agronomy Intern - SEEDWAY - Mifflinburg, PA

 

Seedway is headquartered in Hall, New York with branches in Pennsylvania, Florida, Vermont, Maine, and New York. Seedway has about 220 employees (including seasonal workers) and approximately 15,000 customers. The cooperative does business in farm, vegetable, and turf seed. Seedway is part of the GROWMARK System, an agricultural cooperative serving more than 100,000 customers across North America and Ontario, Canada.

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

Serves as the agronomy intern under the direction of the Sales and Product Manager, trains and assists with general product development and agronomy functions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Hands on experience in agronomy field and operations.

 

  • Visit SEEDWAY dealers and retail customers, to build professional relationships.

 

  • Coordinate set-up and maintenance of test plot locations and grower demonstration days.

 

  • Assist with numerous seed production projects, field research, and crop monitoring equipment.

 

  • Work with various seed on variety selection, inventory, and sales processes.

 

  • Develop and collect trial data, create reports, and enter into database.

 

  • Experience the interworking of the farm seed business and each of the individual areas such as office, warehouse, etc.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

                                                                                                                      

  • Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.

 

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Must be pursuing a degree or certification in agriculture or horticulture at a community college, technical college, or university and in good academic standing at time the internship begins.

 

 

  • Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.

 

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to travel independently and overnight as needed.

 

  • Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
