PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
Responsible for the consolidated accounts, receipts and disbursements, ordering and billing, tax compliance and strategy, financial reporting, and direction over the systems of accounting and internal control functions for the corporation and its subsidiaries.
SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP
Supervises, leads, and develops the Director, General Ledger & Accounting Operations, Director, Accounting - Energy & Agronomy, Director, Business Process and Director, Tax.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recommends and directs the administration of generally accepted accounting principles for GROWMARK, Inc. and subsidiaries and the production of financial management information for operating divisions.
Recommends and guides a strong system of internal controls for the protection and accurate accounting of corporate assets, liabilities, receipts, and disbursements.
Directs the ordering and billing functions, accounting for product gross margin, general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable and receivable, and data base information maintenance, including effective business processes and systems.
Directs the development and regular upkeep of financial analytics for key business unit stakeholders.
Directs the preparation of all tax reports and returns to state, provincial and federal agencies including the oversight of any related audits. Responsible for monitoring, influencing, and communicating tax law changes and developing tax planning strategies.
Provides overall direction in the development and communication of accounting and financial management information for use by the operating divisions and senior management in making business decisions.
Provides overall direction to the accounting policies and procedures and internal control functions for retail divisions and consolidated subsidiaries.
Responsible for coordination of the annual audit of consolidated financial reports and company-sponsored retirement plans with external auditors.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves as director/officer of GROWMARK, subsidiaries or business ventures, and as representative on committees of corporate oversight or strategy as appointed by the CEO.
Responsible for encouraging, supporting, and promoting innovative practices, ideas, and technologies within the team.
Follows GROWMARK’s Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Normally requires a college degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent, plus at least 10-15 years of related experience to demonstrate the ability to provide accounting leadership to the GROWMARK System.
CPA certification and/or advanced degree in business-related area.
Understanding and experience with accounting/finance-related areas including accounting principles, financial decision making, accounting information systems and business processes, tax management, internal controls, audit strategy, policies and procedures, risk management, and compliance along with accounting strategic planning, program execution, budgeting, and communications.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills including staffing, coaching, performance evaluation and the ability to achieve results through others.
Proven professional communication, interpersonal, persuasion and customer service skills.
Demonstrated planning, organization, problem-solving and project management skills.
Proven team building skills and the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Proven computer skills and the ability to use technology to enhance business processes and financial reporting. Have a working knowledge of SAP. Experience with data management tools is preferred.
Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport and have the ability to travel independently and overnight as necessary.
May be required to work hours beyond what is considered “normal”.
Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
