Crop Specialist - Southern FS - Marion, IL

COMPANY: Southern FS





Under the direction of the Agronomy Lead and Business Relationship Manager, generates profitable sales in the assigned territory through target marketing, competitive analysis, and providing value-added agronomic products, services, and recommendations. Ensures the credit worthiness of customers and promotes the company’s Credit programs as marketing tools.





Develops and implements marketing plans and sales strategies that generate profitable sales in the assigned territory.


Utilizes target marketing and professional sales techniques including the FS sales interview road map and professional cropping plans, emphasis of appropriate features and benefits, and utilizing a contact management system when calling on patrons and prospects.


Develops competitive analysis to maintain a current knowledge of the marketplace and the competition.


Provides value-added agronomic products, services, and recommendations to growers. Supports grower meetings on product and technical information in assigned territory. Provide customer service by using soil testing, crop scouting and other programs. Follow up on customer complaints, and seeks a reasonable “win/win” resolutions.


Ensures the credit worthiness of customers, quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained. Promotes the use of the company’s Credit programs as a sales tool and helps provide the required information to establish credit. Works closely with the credit department in collection of accounts receivable.


Obtain a State of Illinois applicator license to make recommendations.


Help to organize aerial application of fungicides and pesticides including maps.


Obtain a CDL license with a Hazmat Endorsement

Responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle according to company standards. Adheres to the company Uniform Policy, and maintains the appropriate professional image.


Ensures FS field signs are displayed on all customers’ fields to promote company products.


Obtain a minimum of five agronomic comparisons on either corn or soybeans


Attend Crop Specialist meetings and training programs.


Utilize AIS for record keeping and soil sampling orders.

Education and Experience


Normally requires a college degree in agriculture, marketing, or other business related discipline and sale/marketing experience to demonstrate the ability to generate profitable sales in the assigned territory.


Achieve/Maintain the Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) certification.


Attain Certified Crop Specialist designation

Other Requirements
